Global Sun Oven

When a Global Sun Oven® is focused on the sun, the interior of the oven can heat to over 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Direct and reflected sunlight enters the oven chamber through the glass door, which is then turned into heat energy. This heat input causes the temperature inside the oven to rise until the heat loss of the oven is equal to the solar heat gain. The light energy absorbed by the oven's dark interior is converted into longer wavelength heat energy. Most of this longer-wavelength radiant energy can not pass back out through the glass, ensuring more efficient cooking.

To use simply position the Sun Oven so it faces the sun. Unfold the reflectors and use the rear 9-position adjusting leg to angle the oven so the solar heat gain is maximized. The food rests on a built-in pivoting shelf that self adjusts to keep food level inside the oven. It can cook bread, cakes, muffins, meats, fish, poultry, vegetables, casseroles, grains, and pasta.

Temperatures in a Sun Oven rise slowly and evenly. The even temperature of the oven prevents burning, so you do not need to stir your food while it is cooking. Even though it is called an oven, food can be baked, boiled, and steamed. The ideal cooking pans are lightweight, dark colored pans, or Pyrex bowls with glass lids.

The oven has a thick bed of non-toxic insulation to retain the heat. It can be used year-round, regardless of the outside temperature. Indeed, The Global Sun Oven has been used at a Mount Everest expedition base camp where the temperatures are often well below zero. It has a built-in thermometer allowing you to determine the temperature at a glance. The reflectors are made of highly polished, mirror-like anodized aluminum that can be cleaned quickly and easily with glass cleaner, and they will never oxidize or rust. For transport, the reflectors fold down, are secured with a strap, allowing the Sun Oven to be stored or carried like a suitcase.
